Join internationally acclaimed illustrator, author, and Berlin-based art professor Felix Scheinberger for a rare five-day sketching workshop in Oaxaca City, Mexico, one of the world’s most inspiring cities for artists.
Why Oaxaca?
Oaxaca is one of Mexico's most visually enchanting cities. Colonial architecture, colorful markets, Indigenous traditions, remarkable cuisine, and everyday street life create endless opportunities for artists to slow down, observe, and fill their sketchbooks with expressive visual stories.
For five days, we'll experience Oaxaca through drawing. We'll explore the city's unique rhythm while learning alongside internationally acclaimed illustrator Felix Scheinberger.

Felix Scheinberger
Felix is an internationally acclaimed illustrator, author, and professor based in Berlin. Known for his expressive line, bold use of color, and distinctive sketchbook style, he has inspired artists around the world through his books, workshops, and university teaching.
Rather than striving for perfect drawings, Felix encourages artists to draw with curiosity, confidence, and personality. His workshops are filled with generous demonstrations and practical techniques that help artists loosen up, trust their instincts, and discover a more personal way of seeing.
Oaxaca Agenda
Monday | Welcome to Oaxaca
Arrive in Oaxaca City and settle into the hotel. Early arrivals are welcome. Take time to explore the neighborhood, enjoy your first taste of Oaxaca, and ease into the week ahead.
Tuesday | Meet Felix
Our workshop begins with an opening sketch session led by Felix. In the evening, we'll gather for a welcome dinner featuring traditional Oaxacan cuisine. (Included)
Wednesday | Drawing Through History
After breakfast, we'll join our local guide for a fascinating historical walk through Oaxaca's historic center while sketching on location. The day continues with a relaxed sketch walk through the colorful streets of Jalatlaco. (Historical talk included)
Thursday | Monte Albán
Travel by private van to the magnificent Monte Albán archaeological site for a full day of sketching among one of Mexico's most extraordinary ancient cities. We'll enjoy a traditional Oaxacan buffet lunch before returning to Oaxaca City. (Transportation, admission, and lunch included.)
Friday | Markets & Everyday Life
We'll venture into a traditional Zapotec market to experience one of Oaxaca's most vibrant cultural traditions. Spend the day sketching, observing, and discovering the colors, rhythms, and everyday life that make Oaxaca so unforgettable. Lunch is included before returning to the hotel.
Saturday | Celebration & Reflection
Our final sketching day takes us near Santo Domingo, where we'll capture Oaxaca's festive spirit with mojigangas, feather dancers, parades, and music. We'll end the workshop with a sketchbook review followed by our farewell dinner together. (Dinner included.)
Sunday | Until Next Time
Enjoy an optional group breakfast before departures and the journey home.

Hotel Accomodations
Our home base for the workshop is Hotel Casa de los Frailes, a charming hotel located directly across from the Templo de Santo Domingo in the heart of Oaxaca's historic center.
We've reserved a block of rooms for workshop participants, with rates averaging approximately $110 USD per night, including breakfast. Participants staying at Casa de los Frailes will book and pay the hotel directly after selecting a room based on availability.
You're also welcome to stay elsewhere. If you choose your own accommodations, we recommend staying within walking distance of Santo Domingo so it's easy to meet the group each morning and enjoy Oaxaca's lively evenings after our workshop sessions.
Transportation
Oaxaca City (OAX) is normally reached after a connection via Mexico City, a major hub and easily accessible from almost every corner of the world. Upon your arrival at the OAX airport, there is a verified Colectivo stand where you purchase your shared van ride with a verified taxi driver. Our hotel is located less than 30 minutes from the airport, depending on traffic. You can choose a shared ride for approximately $135 pesos, or a private taxi for approximately $525 pesos, paid directly to the Colectivo stand. Both options are safe and economical ways to travel to the hotel. Side note: if several planes arrive at approximately the same time, only shared colectivos are available, unless you pre-arrange a private driver with me beforehand.
If you prefer, we can arrange a private driver to pick you up at the airport and deliver you directly to the hotel for approximately $1000 pesos (up to two people).

Workshop Fee: $2,100 USD
The workshop fee includes all instruction with Felix Scheinberger, scheduled activities and excursions, private transportation during workshop outings, and the meals listed under What's Included.
Not included: airfare, hotel accommodations, travel insurance, art supplies, and personal expenses.
Payment Schedule
To reserve your place, a $100 USD deposit is required.
$100 deposit due at registration (fully refundable through July 1, 2026)
$1,000 payment due September 1, 2026
Final balance of $1,000 due December 1, 2026
Cancellation Policy
Because this is a small international workshop, payments made after July 1, 2026 are non-refundable unless your place can be filled by another participant.
If a waiting list exists, we'll gladly offer your space to the next interested artist. While we'll make every effort to help fill your place, a replacement cannot be guaranteed.
Travel insurance with strong medical coverage is required, and Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) coverage is highly recommended.

Oaxaca is one of Mexico's great drawing cities. It's a place I've returned to many times, and every visit reminds me why I love to draw there.
I'll be your host throughout the week while Felix leads the workshop. Together, we've created an experience that brings together expressive drawing and the everyday life of Oaxaca.
